Caring for your Cosmetic Dental Restorations

Reseda, Chatsworth, Tarzana, Northridge, Canoga Park and the Nearby Areas

After receiving your beautiful smile enhancement by our Reseda Cosmetic Dentist, we know you will want to maintain your new smile for years to come. Your new smile represents a significant emotional and financial investment. All of us at Five Star Family Dental want you to enjoy the benefits of your terrific smile through proper maintenance and professional follow up care.

Here are steps to help you maintain your smile.

We suggest having your teeth cleaned by our hygienists. They have extensive experience in caring for cosmetic dentistry. They will use special polishing paste for your porcelain veneers and crowns. We suggest having you teeth cleaned minimally every six months. Dr. Vorperian should examine your entire mouth at least once a year. It is important to know that our hygienists will not use certain metal instruments or coarse pumice on your restorations, as they will dull and scratch the porcelain surface.

Fluoride treatments have to be done carefully. We use a neutral fluoride so it will not break down the bond strength. Acidic fluoride solutions can also affect negatively the color of your restorations.

Some toothpastes can be abrasive to porcelain veneers and crowns. We use Opalescence toothpaste. It is very safe and gentle to your cosmetic dentistry. Floss and brush daily. Although rare, a cavity can form on the natural tooth remaining if your home care is negligent.

Alcohol consumption if excessive can affect the bond strength that holds the porcelain veneer to your natural tooth structure. Also be aware of certain mouthwashes that contain alcohol. Read the ingredients of any mouth wash you use regularly.

There are no restrictions on what you can eat, but do not bite on sharp or hard objects, such as pens, pencils or even your fingernails. If you grind or clench your teeth, you will want to wear a night guard a night to protect you porcelain veneers and crowns. We provide a night guard for all cosmetic cases we complete at no charge. If you are in athletic sports such as basketball or football, a mouth guard is advised. We can make one for you or make your own with a kit from any sporting goods store.

In conclusion, we want your beautiful new investment to be well cared for. You will receive the finest in Reseda cosmetic dentistry, but you will still have to take care of your new smile and we are here to help. Contact our office today for a free evaluation in Reseda, Los Angeles Areas today!
